concept

I have wanted to do a dark sultry shoot with fruit for so long, so after an original photoshoot plan with Hope didn’t work out I pitched this one and they loved it. I wanted a little more backstory to the shoot than just sexy fruit, and since fairy in the forest always seems to be the theme when shooting with Hope, I figured why fix what isn’t broken? The twist this time being that it is a dark fairy and they are actively hunting you back as you fall for their seductive trap. Hope sourced their outfit entirely from the Buffalo Exchange they manage and absolutely slayed the dress code, a master of layering as always. We chose darker fruit as well (plums and red grapes) to add to the underlying tone of shadows and danger.

After doing some light research on nature reserves we settled on Garden in the Woods in Framingham post seeing the online photos and falling in love with the lush moss and babbling brooks. Rather than actively search for spots to shoot we just explored the park and went wherever called to us, going so far as to hop in the stream for some shots. The weather was a little tumultuous but it worked in our favor since we were able to capture, sunny, cloudy, and even rainy atmospheres in different sections of the shoot. Spring has just started in New England so we were able to capture the small bit of life sprouting up through the death of winter which worked beautifully with our dark fairy theme.

Social media Aspect

This was the first time I travelled by car for over an hour for a photoshoot as well as had such interesting props so I decided to film some bts footage and turn the journey into a vlog to show my followers what it’s like to see a project come together. It’s so interesting seeing the original setting and watching the story come to life when you introduce your own creative elements and finally edit it all together. The edits make the photos look so dark which is exactly what we wanted, but it was actually quite sunny and nice when we started shooting. The juxtaposition of where I start to where I finish will never not be my favorite part of photoshoots. To the left is the moodboard I created for the styling inspiration for this project and to the right is the moodboard I created for the overall vibe of the day. Below is the vlog of the process.
