concept
siren: each of a number of creatures whose singing lured unwary sailors on to rocks. a person who is considered to be alluring or fascinating but also dangerous in some way.
Even though I was only in Boston for a week long work trip there was no way I could be in the same city as @bratboywimp and not link up to create something. I had a six hour break in between shifts so we headed down to Scituate beach, close to the hometown of Hope who spent many a childhood summer jumping off the very rocks we were shooting on that day. We spied some dried pink algae that felt like a different world and got to work(after googling if it was safe to step on and battling jumping spiders), channeling a dangerous mythical creature that had left their watery home for a midday hunt, and hoped to create imagery that had an air of both sensuality and danger.
Rather than capturing a siren lounging seaside I feel like these images conjure up a lot more of the dangerous allure often depicted in cinema when dealing with mythical sea creatures. Besides the token high rock poses I wanted to also capture some interesting shapes and silhouettes that required a little more body contortion which Hope executed perfectly. Sirens aren’t beautiful, they’re alluring, a desperate pull you can’t resist towards a hazy promise that ends in a watery grave. The beginning of that cat and mouse dance is what I hoped to create.
