concept

Kaline is my best friend from high school whom I met in a creative writing after school program. She is also a photographer and watching her lug a camera around everywhere is actually what got me interested in photography too. When I was visiting back home in Chicago, her birthday had already passed earlier in the month but we still decided to do a shoot for it. We can never focus on just one thing so the birthday shoot took a more artsy turn and morphed into creative city girl portraits. Exploring around the loop we wound up in a parking garage and were able to play with the moody lighting. Kaline is usually behind the camera and isn’t used to posing herself so I directed her for most of the shoot, putting her in poses that played with movement since she had a billowy shirt and her hair out and loose.
