Sasha was one of the first models I worked with to create fashion content and focus on chic, editorial style shoots. Sasha has a talent for creating lovely silhouettes as well as interestingly textured and layered outfits that I wanted to explore with the backdrop of Boston’s urban landscape. For our last shoot before I moved out of Boston, we decided to do something more soft, romantic, and whimsical, as a celebration of not only summer’s arrival but also Sasha’s recent graduation from university. I chose the location of Castle Island for it’s rolling green hillside and beach front views that I thought perfectly reflected the fairytale coming of age vibe we were going for. Sasha brought some props along as well, headphones and a book to complete the college student narrative. As we shot the story we wound up creating was one of hazy summer love, with a k-drama aesthetic.

Although it was the beginning of summer we were lucky enough to have one more grove of cherry blossom trees in full bloom right there on the island. With the soft breeze creating little curtains of petals drifting down softly around us we truly felt like we had walked right onto the set a meet cute scene in a romance korean drama. Going with what nature provided I directed Sasha into poses with more movement and less rigidity so that it would feel more like a movie scene instead of a static shot. Although this was our last shoot together I believe this one had the least amount of planning that went into it, and yet these are hands down some of my favorite images that Sasha and I created. Something about allowing yourself to create what feels right and natural to that moment and not thinking further than the frame at hand was really freeing and rejuvenating for our creative spirits, as well as a lovely end to our creative work together in Boston.
