concept
A modern take on lunar new year fashion set in an antique shop. After seeing a collaboration Teresa did with @traceycphotography I dove a little deeper into her account and fell in love with her simplistic but impactful style. I thought she could be the perfect model for a lunar new year inspired shoot and reached out to her to do just that. Since she unfortunately didn’t have any traditional clothing with her here in Boston(she recently moved to the New England area) we settled on lunar new year inspired colors and jewelry, hence the red and gold accents. I still wanted some sort of vintage feeling and that’s when the idea of an antique store setting took place. After calling a few shops for permission to shoot inside I was finally granted it by the kind and friendly owner of Fun Antiques, Jerry. Not only did he allow us to shoot he also allowed us to move around some of the pieces in his store and create our own set with the interior.
When editing I focused on mimicking the colors of our environment by heightening the red, yellow, and green tones of each shot. I played around with contrast and exposure to make it as bold and bright as possible while still maintaining a moody and classic feel. I also experimented with overlaying certain images on top of each other to create different moods and stories within the photos. These photos feel like the ones from your grandmas photo album where she shows you what a baddie she was in her youth, meets a moody and romantic tumblr page of your early high school years and I am in love. I think we did an excellent job playing with the influences of the lunar new year in a modern, fun, and original way.

social media aspect
When posting photoshoots online it’s important to not only garner attention to the project prior to releasing the photos but also to show parts of the process that went into creating the photoshoot. For this shoot I experimented with a hiphop techno style as shown in the above video, that displayed a little bit of the vibes we were going for[antique shop and lunar new year] without actually revealing too much about the project. As for the bts, I almost always create a moodboard to go along with every one of my projects for the model as well as for myself so we have an idea of the mood and theme before we even begin shooting and especially before we begin styling. I also think it’s very interesting to see where we start and where we finish which is why I created the comparison between the two that is shown in the video below.
